General Etiquette

It is your responsibility to keep up with the game ahead and not just keep ahead of the game behind.

Green staff “always” have priority on the course. Occasionally during routine maintenance work the green staff may need to close a hole or green so we ask that if this is the case you pick up your ball and move on to the next hole.

Groups playing in an official club competition should be waved through as soon as possible, regardless of what day it is. Please remember that ladies also play competitions from the red tees and should not be held up.

Please be aware of the group behind you and if you are holding them up please wave them through.

Try to leave your bag so that when you have finished the hole your bag is between you and the next tee to avoid wasting time walking to the wrong side of the green to collect it only to walk back in front or behind the green to get to the next tee.

Some of our tees are quite large so occasionally it may be possible to leave your bag at the front of the tee and not the side some 20 + yards away, but please make sure you don’t leave it in the way of somebody taking a shot.

Do not stand on or next to the green and mark your card, move away to the next tee and do it whilst you partner, or opponent is teeing off. The first player who has putted out should pick up the flag and have it ready to put back in the hole.

You can only cut in if there is nobody playing the hole behind you.

Dress Code

Clean smart casual clothes must be worn in the clubhouse and on the course at all times.

Track suits, non-tailored shorts and dirty work attire are not permitted on the course or upstairs in the clubhouse.

On the course trousers must not be tucked into socks and appropriate footwear must be worn.

Caps and wet waterproofs must not be worn in the bar and dining area

Mobile Phones

Barnard Castle Golf Club is a modern thinking club and fully understands the need to carry and in the case of an emergency use a mobile phone whilst still on the course. However, if you are not expecting an important phone call could you please set your phone to silent mode.

In the clubhouse it would be appreciated that you answer your phone ASAP when it rings, but then move to the stairwell to carry on your conversation.
