A Brief Intro to Martyn
Hi I’m Martyn Stubbings, the PGA Club Professional here at Barnard Castle Golf Club. I aim to provide a first class service to the members and visitors to the club, by creating a welcoming first impression and modern shopping experience. We are very fortunate to be based in such an area of natural beauty that can be enjoyed by seasoned professionals to beginners alike, with the first tee and 18th green to be seen from the golf shop.
My first head professional role came at the tender age of just 21 years and 9 days at my boyhood club Dinsdale Spa, making me the youngest PGA Head Professional in the UK at the time. Always a lover of both Football and Golf, the latter came to me relatively late and due to my diminutive stature through my teenage years, it was tough! I definitely needed my short game to help me out, but once I grew bigger than my golf bag I was away and kicking! Relatively straight hitting, and a streaky putter at best, my knowledge for coaching and wanting to be better has improved my playing ability every year as a professional to where I am today, even though my score may not always prove that!
After being both a club professional at both private and resort clubs, I believe the experiences I have gained at both unique ends of the spectrum puts me in good stead for a long and prosperous future here at Barnard Castle Golf Club. I love playing golf and getting out with the members, arranging club trips and challenging the members with the club Captain.
Having access to and owning Trackman technology for the past 15 years, my knowledge of ball flight laws and custom fitting principles are my speciality. Using this data to identify priorities for the golfer is the skill, with the art coming from what to change and when. I pride myself on ‘reading’ a golfer and which path to choose to maximise their enjoyment and ability. We are all very different and must be treated as such, all part of the fun and the challenge! All sections of the clubs membership are targeted to improve their experiences and increase our membership numbers. Barnard Castle Golf Club is a perfect venue for any ages, and I am always looking to produce the next junior, club, ladies or seniors champion who will take the pound off their partners.
I am delighted to offer custom fitting of clubs using Trackman, including but not limited to Callaway, Taylormade, Titlest, Cobra, Mizuno and Wilson.
